For the 1938 Mille Miglia, Alfa Romeo built four examples of the Tipo 8C 2900B with spyder coachwork by Touring. Fitted with a Tipo 308 Grand Prix engine and driven by Biondetti, who with co-driver Stefani, took the lead and eventually won the race, aided by large quantities of alcohol fuel necessitating many stops on route, but allowing this immensely powerful supercar to be held at full throttle over long stretches.
